Giveaway Day

Over the years that I've been entering contests via this lovely internet community, I've been lucky enough to win a few great prizes. . fabric, a calendar, cute clothes for my girls, a beautiful quilted journal cover, handmade cards, a fabric storage box, and of course, an autographed copy of Alicia Paulson's Stitched in Time - the list goes on . . .

I enter a giveaway almost every day . . I think they're such a great way to give back to the blogging community that gives so much in terms of inspiration.

Which is why I'm taking part in Sew Mama Sew's Giveaway Day on December 2.

I have this book on my wish list this year . . I borrowed it from the library a few weeks ago and fell in love! I didn't have a chance to try out any of the projects but I think it belongs on every quilter's bookshelf.

If you win this giveaway, I will order it directly from a bookstore and have it delivered to you. I will also mail a little package of handmade fun. This will include an ornament for sure, but the rest depends on where the winner is from since postage rates can vary and it would be nice if the package could arrive before Christmas.

All you have to do to enter is leave a comment on this post telling me what your favourite Christmas cookie is . . and a link to a recipe gives you two entries. I need to get started on holiday baking!

Want a third entry? Become a follower of our blog and leave a comment telling me you've done so. (If you're already a follower you get a bonus entry but be sure and let me know.)

The deadline to enter is December 6th. Please include your email with your entry so I can contact you if you win!

Good luck!

- Donna

What a wonderful giveaway! My favorite cookie is actually in the Betty Crocker Cookbook. They make the best cutter cookies (think sugar cookie but so much better).

Sour Cream Cookies
1 cup sugar
1/4 cup shortening
1/4 cup butter
1 tsp. vanilla
1 egg
2 2/3 cups flour
1/2 cup sour cream
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
sugar to sprinkle

Divide dough in thirds rolling each third to 1/4 inch thick.
Sprinkle cut cookies with sugar if you wish and bake @ 425 for 6-8 minutes.

Double the batch because you are going to love them! You can freeze the dough too ;)

Hi
Thanks for the giveaway..that is very generous of you.
My favorite cookie is the Russian Tea Cake, I didn't put a link because someone else already did! My son became a vegan last Christmas and this little cookie was a good one to make for him since I just had to change to a soy based butter! And you can add so many different things to it to make it extra special like dried fruits and different nuts...now I'm hungry!!

The book looks great... I'm off to see if the Internet bookstore I use most often carries it (although I'll wait to see if I've won!).

Do you know about The Book Depository? It's a British based bookstore that ships to most countries free of charge. Maybe it would be a good idea to check them out before shipping your giveaway ;-)

Thanks for the tip and the opportunity!!

My favorite holiday treat to make isn't a cookie but maybe this will work for you. I love to make Peppermint Bark. White chocolate, dark chocolate, mixed. Here is a reciepe. http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/paula-deen/peppermint-bark-recipe/index.html
But the best way to make it I found it to lay two mini candy canes down in the shape of a heart and fill in the middle. I know it doesn't give the rugged feel of traditional bark but it makes it so easy to dress up in cute little bags as gifts.

To make Pizzelles you need a special iron (like a waffle iron) and if you have one of those than I am sure you have a recipe. So here is another cookie recipe I just made for thanksgiving and were a huge hit.
White Chocolate, Macadamia nut, Cranberry Cookies
I followed a basic White Chocolate & Macadamia Nut cookie recipe and added 1 1/2 cup of FRESH Cranberries to the dough. Bake 25degrees lower and add a couple of minutes to time cooking (until the berries burst) They are really good.

Okay, here is a link to a recipe for Laura Bush's "Texas Governor's Mansion Cowboy Cookies" - but remember, to make my version you have to add dried cranberries!

I love finding Canadian crafty blogs. (I'm in Montreal) so I've added you into my subscriptions list. My favourite biscuits (I'm actually Australian so find it hard to say cookie) are gingerbread men. I have three daughters and they all love them. Best eaten quickly before little hands have touched them!!

My favorite cookies are tea time tassies. We make them like this, only without chopping the pecans. One pecan before pouring in the filling, one on top. Mmmmm....

This is not necessarily a Christmas cookie, but my mom only made this at Christmas time -kringla (http://www.cooks.com/rec/view/0,196,145161-224203,00.html) Even though I have had the recipe for many, many years I too only make these at Christmas time! We like them with a bit of butter, but I understand a pat of strawberry cream cheese is wonderful as well! Thanks for participating :)

These are sooo yummy too:
Caramel Bars
¾ c. butter, melted
1 c. flour
1 c. oatmeal
¾ c. (packed) brown sugar
1 tsp. baking soda
32 caramels
3 Tbsp butter
3 Tbsp. milk
6 oz. chocolate chips (about 1 c.)
½ c. chopped nuts
Preheat the oven to 350 F. In a small mixing bowl, combine the butter, flour, oatmeal, brown sugar, and baking soda and mix well. Put ¾ of the mixture in a 9x13 pan, pressing evenly over the bottom of the pan. Bake for 10 minutes. Meanwhile, in a saucepan, combine the caramels, butter, and milk and heat, stirring, until the caramels are melted. Pour the caramel mixture over the crust and sprinkle with the chocolate chips and nuts. Top with the remaining butter-oatmeal mixture. Bake for 15 minutes more. Cool and cut into bars.

I'm trying to enter all the quilting give aways as I got married this summer and I was hoping that my uncle (who is a great quilter) would give me a quilt. Due to a very very stupid family feud (you know the wedding kind where it has nothing to do with the people just that others are upset that you're happy) he didn't even come to the wedding. i was devastated, esp. as I didn't have much to do with the whole thing. Alas I am now trying to learn how to quilt so this book would be amazing!

My favourite Christmas cookies were always stained glass cookies, which can be edible decorations!

Enjoy! btw I live in Newfoundland!

hello!

i don't know how to translate its name, but it's a pie i only make for xmas. it is made with cinnamon, and nuts, and this kind of white cheese that's not really cheese yet (in Portugal it's called requeijão).

i love it!

and i have a funny story about it too: the one time that i decided to make it outside xmas was because my boyfriend (now husband) was meeting my parents. i was so nervous about the big event that i forgot to add sugar, then the pie was horrible, but he is so sweet that he pretended to like it!
