My String Quilt is born and she needs a name...

After teasing you last week with that quilting shot, I'm happy to report that I finshed the string quilt a while ago . . . all bound up, it's been used to snuggle on the couch several times already.

It occurred to me as I stroked it one night that it contains a good many pieces of vintage or thrifted fabric. The back is mainly a piece of rust coloured broad cloth that I got for super cheap at Value Village. A quilt like this that is largely made up of scraps from other projects + pieces of fabric that I wanted to 'use up' + some of my favourites thrown in there for good measure (even if it meant i had to cut into uncut yardage!!) is really the best part of quilting. Using what you have to make something beautiful.

But she needs a name. Ashley's callout ended up in Kaleidoscope's naming. Anyone have a suggestion?? Let's hear 'em!

xx

It's so, so gorgeous, Donna. I want to see and touch it in person though. Some day!
As for the name, I vote strung out...what with the process involved! Great one, Georgia!

My youngest son looked at your quilt and loves it (actually we all do!!) He said it reminds him of one those twirly things (a kaleidoscope). Their suggestion is Kaleidoscope Dreams...

Good luck on the naming!! (I'm terrible at it... we even resorted to naming all three of our boys John in 3 different forms of gaelic..)

i am so bad at naming things...you really made something totally amazing out of what you had!!

I was thinking of Tangled Memories - memories of all the different fabrics you have used or will used all mixed together!!

OK, I know this is going to sound weird, but right when I saw that your quilt needed a name, I thought "Lila". Not sure why. I don't know any Lila's nor do I necessarily think using human names for quilts is normal, but why not? :)

hello! your quilt is just lovely!!! i love the use of colours. it made me think of spring. maybe you could called "Spring a long", because it's a string quilt that looks like Spring.

ohh i'm terrible at this!

It looks great! Congratulations on finishing it off. I like the back, too.

Also, thank you for the tales of woe with this quilt and what actions you took to straighten it out. Your blogging and advice about yours helped me make mine. I just finished last weekend: http://too-lazy-to-be-evil.com/blog/?p=2623
Thanks for the tips and for sharing your experiences, especially the less-than-successful ones so that I didn't have to go through them all, too.
